NanoOne Ultra-Micro Spectrophotometer Helps Bacterial Metabolism Studies
Recently, a research team led by Prof. Zhang Anding at Huazhong Agricultural University published a study entitled "HrcA-mediated transcriptional regulation affects the growth and survival of Streptococcus suis under low-glucose conditions" in Animal Diseases, a Springer Nature journal. This study reveals the molecular mechanism by which the transcription factor HrcA regulates carbon metabolism-related genes to help Streptococcus suis adapt to glucose-limited host environments.

《Animal Diseases》
Animal Diseases is an international, peer-reviewed journal focusing on animal health and disease research, particularly zoonotic diseases, bacterial pathogenic mechanisms, and disease prevention and control. It serves as an important platform for disseminating research with both academic significance and translational potential in animal and public health.

As a significant zoonotic pathogen, the colonization and survival of Streptococcus suis in the glucose-deficient nasopharyngeal environment have long been a research focus. In this study, multi-omics approaches were used to systematically characterize the bacterium’s adaptive strategies under low-glucose conditions.
During key stages of sample quantification and growth monitoring, the Yooning NanoOne ultra-micro spectrophotometer provided stable and reliable technical support.
Application of NanoOne in Bacterial Growth Monitoring
The NanoOne Ultra-Micro Spectrophotometer was used to rapidly measure OD600 values of Streptococcus suis cultured under different glucose concentrations, offering the following advantages:
· Precise control of sampling points
NanoOne accurately determined OD600 values in TSB medium, enabling reliable identification of the logarithmic-phase sampling point (OD600 = 0.6).
· Standardized inoculum preparation
Bacteial suspensions of wild-type, mutant, and complemented strains were normalized to OD600 = 0.2 prior to inoculation, minimizing variability caused by differences in initial cell density.
· Improved experimental reproducibility
Rapid OD600 measurements allowed real-time monitoring of growth trends across parallel experiments, ensuring consistency between batches and strengthening quality control of experimental data.
Advantages of NanoOne for Small-Volume Samples
NanoOne also works very well for small sample volumes:
Accurate and stable results

A high-precision optical system ensures stable and repeatable measurements.
Fast and easy to use

No complex calibration or dilution is needed. Only 2 µL of sample is required, and results are available in 2–6 seconds.
Broad application compatibility

In addition to OD600 measurements, NanoOne supports quantitative analysis of nucleic acids, proteins, and other biomolecules, meeting diverse needs in microbiological research with a single instrument.
Comprehensive software functions

The system supports contaminant analysis, three-level user permissions, audit tracking, and desktop software integration, balancing regulatory compliance with practical usability.
